Neighbors are volunteering to help the elderly get groceries. Celebrities are donating money to organizations to help out their community. Local businesses are providing meals to those who are in need. The list goes on. The fashion industry did not hesitate to join the fight. We’ve got to give it to the frontline workers who are still going to work every day in these uncertain times. Grocery store workers, healthcare workers, transportation workers, you name it. These are the people who we can’t thank enough. However, it’s hard to go into work and putting yourself at risk without sufficient protection. Frontline workers are going to work every day with inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE). The worst part is, some workers don’t even have PPE due to the insane demand amongst the pandemic. People all around the world are coming together to donate as much PPE that they can get their hands on to all front line workers. Some are even going the extra step to make PPE to donate. These fashion houses are supporting front line workers in their own way, pivoting their own fashion apparel production to the production of PPE to help with the crisis. As the days pass, more and more companies are joining their fight against COVID-19. Louis Vuitton Louis Vuitton has turned its workshops in France to produce nonsurgical masks to help with the demand of face masks since the CDC has suggested that people should not be out in public without a face mask. adidas x Carbon Adidas has partnered with their partner, Carbon to 3D print face shields to provide relief among the crisis. They are currently printing 18,000 shields a week, which are allocated for first responders and healthcare professionals around the world. ARC’TERYX Arc’teryx has created a prototype for a reusable medical gown. Beginning in April, Arc’teryx’s parent company, Arc’One, started production for their first 500 units. Arc’One’s team is adhering to strict health, safety, and distancing protocols while wearing masks and gloves at production stations. Before they are shipped, each gown is professionally washed and sanitized. NIKE In addition to donating $1.6 million to local organizations helping with food assistance and medical care, they are now working closely with health professionals and are now producing face shields and powered air-purifying respirator lenses (PAPR). They have delivered the PPE to health organizations across the state of Oregon and Boston. Chrome Hearts Chrome Hearts have shifted their resources to making face masks out of their Hollywood facilities. Posted on instagram with the caption, “we protect what we love”, they announced their decision to give back to the community. Prada Prada’s Perugian factory has started producing 80,000 medical overalls and 110,000 masks for health care workers. Canada Goose Canada Goose has started to produce scrubs and hospital gowns to distribute across all hospitals in Canada. Hung Nguyen Hung is a Logistics Specialist in the Greater Philadelphia area.
